Nature & Sport

Endless sand dune edged pine forests and wild untamed bush-land make up the Tuscan Maremma; one of the few areas in Italy that has managed to preserve it’s natural and unspoiled territory. With her nature parks, wildlife reserves, and fascinating archipelago this area of Tuscany represents a paradise for all nature and sport lovers.

Horse riders had better put on their boots and hold on to their hats as they may have the chance to participate in the round-up with the "butteri" as they skilfully muster the wild horses and ancient Maremman cows through, marshlands, pine forests and sandy beaches that make up the Maremma Nature Reserve.

Experience an exhilarating bike ride across the plains, or a walk along the beach and in the hills for a glimpse of the wild boar, fallow deer and roe bucks.

A canoe trip amidst green woodlands, while fish leap from the water and timid herons, black-winged stilts and flamingos graciously wander along the waters edge, is a must for any birdwatcher.

For the keen fisherman it’s an early start as you join Paolo on his typical trawler “Sirena” cruising the beautiful archipelago. Assist in the catch as he hauls in his nets, full of typical Mediterranean sea life, or be guided to Paolo's favourite fishing holes where you can throw in a line or two. There is nothing quite so delicious as freshly caught barbecued seafood and Paolo anchors in one of the tranquil bays of the Maremma Nature Park for lunch which is accompanied by a chilled local wine.

After your exhilarating holiday you may wish to experience the many other charms of this region - the cooking, wine, language, art and history of Tuscany.
